What is happening to Cypher?
Updated July 7, 2026
Cypher is sunsetting. Cypher has been acquired by Nium, and as part of the acquisition the current Cypher platform — the consumer app, the business card platform, and the CYPR ecosystem — will gradually wind down, completing on September 6, 2026 .
The timeline in short:
- July 8, 2026 — Card loading is disabled; new card applications and card issuance end.
- July 16, 2026 — The final rewards cycle: spend rewards earned between July 2–16 are distributed. No further reward distributions.
- August 7, 2026 — Final day to use your Cypher Card for purchases. All active cards are canceled.
- September 6, 2026 — The Cypher mobile app, dApp, and business platform go offline; the withdrawal window and rewards claims close; the CYPR protocol is permanently wound down.
While the current platform is being shut down, our team is already working on building the next version of Cypher directly on top of Nium’s infrastructure. Building on this established foundation gives us the opportunity to deliver a faster, more scalable platform with a significantly improved user experience, broader global reach, more competitive pricing, and capabilities that would have taken years to build independently. You’ll receive more updates regarding this in the coming weeks.
Your funds are completely safe and can be withdrawn at any time before September 6, 2026 , with no fees. Open the Cypher app or dApp to complete the guided offboarding steps — withdraw your card balance, claim your rewards, and back up your wallet. See the wind-down overview for the summary.
