Today, we’re announcing one of the biggest milestones in Cypher’s journey.
Over the past four years, Cypher has helped thousands of people around the world use digital assets for everyday payments. Today, that journey enters an exciting new chapter.
Cypher is getting acquired by Nium, the global leader in cross-border payments infrastructure to expand its fiat-to-onchain capabilities and build a new Cypher experience powered by Nium’s global payments platform.
Why Nium?
At Cypher, we’ve always believed that the future of payments lies at the intersection of traditional finance and blockchain technology. Nium shares that vision.
As the global leader in cross-border payments infrastructure, Nium enables banks, fintechs, and enterprises to move money across 190+ countries and 100+ currencies through a single global platform. With more than 41 million cards issued annually, and strategic partnerships with industry leaders such as Circle and Coinbase, Nium is building the infrastructure that connects stablecoins with real-world payments at a global scale.
Joining Nium allows us to combine Cypher’s expertise in digital assets with one of the world’s most advanced payments networks, creating the foundation for a faster, more scalable, and globally connected customer experience.
What this means for you
As part of this transition, we’ll begin the gradual wind-down of the current Cypher platform, including the consumer app, business card platform, and the CYPR ecosystem. It will remain available until September 6, 2026.
Here’s what you need to know

- Card loading has been disabled
- You can continue using your Cypher Card until August 7, 2026.
- All earned rewards must be claimed before September 6, 2026
- Your card remains usable until August 7, 2026, but your account and any remaining card balance stay accessible for withdrawal until September 6, 2026. If you still have a card balance after August 7, please withdraw it before the platform winds down.
- Our support team will remain available throughout the wind-down period to assist you
The CYPR Protocol Being Discontinued.
This was not a decision we took lightly. Together with Nium, our legal and regulatory advisors, and all relevant stakeholders, we carefully explored every possible path for continuing the CYPR protocol after the acquisition. After extensive evaluation, it became clear that maintaining the existing protocol wasn’t feasible.
Rather than create uncertainty or make promises we couldn’t keep, we’ve chosen to be transparent about that decision from the outset and focus on delivering a smooth, well-supported transition for every member of our community.
Looking Ahead
Joining Nium allows us to continue our journey on a much larger scale. We’re excited to welcome our earliest supporters and Premium members back with exclusive offers, and special launch benefits for the new Cypher experience.

Note from the founder
“Four years ago, we started Cypher with a simple belief: that digital assets should become a practical part of everyday finance. Everything we’ve built since then has been possible because of the trust, feedback, and support of this community. For that, I am deeply grateful. Joining Nium allows us to take that mission to an entirely new scale. While the current platform is winding down, the vision we started together is accelerated. We’re building something incredible next, and we can’t wait to show you.”
Thank You
Building Cypher has been one of the most rewarding journeys of our lives, and none of it would have been possible without you.
Thank you for believing in our vision, trusting our products, and helping us build a community that pushed us to keep improving every day. Joining Nium allows us to continue that journey on a much larger scale, and we’re excited to welcome you back when the new Cypher experience is ready. Thank you for being part of Cypher.
See you soon.
